The Text + Pix Collective (est. Fall 2024) is a group of Duke faculty, Duke students and Triangle community members who share an artistic interest in the relationship between the visual image and the written word. Members include professors, graduate students, undergraduates, local writers and photographers, artists, curators, editors and designers. The Collective meets monthly during the semester to hear short presentations on new creative projects and research in progress. Presentations in 2024/25 included Ama Kyreme’s explorations of ex-colonial fortresses on the Ghanaian coast, Stan Abe’s creative non-fictional account of the evolution of Chinese sculpture, and Mesha Maren’s use of family archives in developing her new novel. Members are invited to discuss the presentations, and to propose future lines of enquiry for the Collective.
