Writing Flash Nonfiction

ENGLISH 217S

Experimenting with creative nonfiction style and structure, in this class we will explore the challenges and opportunities of making brevity the soul of wit. Over the course of the semester each student will gather material for, draft, workshop, revise, and polish a series of nonfiction pieces of 600–800 words each, using a variety of assigned approaches. Along the way, in-class writing exercises and published examples of flash nonfiction will provide inspiration and ideas. No previous creative writing experience is required for this course.
