How has being an English graduate from Duke University helped shape your professional success?

The English department taught me how to think about a narrative and how to surprise people in my writing. It also encouraged me to learn about things for no other reason than that they might be interesting or compelling. Lastly, the department is also the community at Duke that most convinced me I could be creative. I'm grateful to it.

I learned how to read (a lot!), research and synthesize information-- all skills that have been critical throughout my career.
