The English Department is proud to share that The Graduate School is honoring English Ph.D., candidate Jessica Stark as one of the four 2019 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching winners.
“I love teaching as a means to share my most longstanding passion for examining the nuances and radical potential for literature to transform how we interact with the world. In my classes, I aim to unlock rather than dictate how my students come to appreciate writing (whether creative or analytic) as a tool for cultivating a deeper reserve for compassion, critical thinking, and sheer magic in our everyday lives. “ - Jessica Stark
The Graduate School has announced the eleven 2019 Dean’s Award winners. The Dean’s Awards recognizes outstanding efforts in mentoring, teaching, and creating an inclusive environment for graduate education at Duke. The recipients will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, March 27 at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
A review committee of deans, graduate faculty, staff, and graduate students selected winners from a competitive pool of nominees. The committee notes that it seeks to recognize those that have engaged in professional development activities, made significant contributions to teaching, TA training, and student learning outcomes within their department at Duke.
The English Department at Duke is pleased that one of our own, Jessica Stark is being recognized with this well desired honor and would like to congratulate Stark and the three other Ph.D. students who are recipients of the 2019 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Biology Ph.D. program for being selected as the 2019 Dean’s Award for Inclusive Excellence in Graduate Education, and the four faculty and two Ph.D. winners of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring.
