April is National Poetry Month. National Poetry Month was initiated in April of 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to highlight the importance of poetry to the world. The Academy is offering online activities, initiatives, and resources so that anyone can join in at home with honoring National Poetry Month. They also hope these opportunities will help bring comfort during this time and inspire everyone to celebrate poetry not only in April but every day.
Below are some of the activities and suggestions that the Academy of American Poets have compiled in hopes of providing comfort, resilience, and connection during National Poetry Month and thereafter:
The Academy’s new initiative, Shelter in Poems, allows its audience to post an talk about poems that are helping them through these difficult times.
The Academy of American Poets was founded in 1934 to support American poets and nourish an appreciation for the art of poetry.
