Tuesday, March 5, -
Speaker(s): Marguerite Nguyen, Associate Professor of English, Wesleyen University

Duke English invites you to join us for the second talk in our Asian, Asian American Diaspora Studies series, featuring Marguerite Nguyen, Associate Professor of English at Wesleyan University, who will present “Vietnamese American Literature and the Turn to Critical Refugee Studies.”

Synopsis:

This talk examines the emergence of critical refugee studies (CRS) and considers its possibilities for Asian American literary studies more broadly. Proposed by scholars working on the Vietnamese diaspora, CRS centers refugee storytelling to situate forced migration within contexts of war, race, and empire while also highlighting refugee memory, knowledge, and creativity. The talk turns toward refugee ecology as a literary approach that engages the intricacies of refugee worldmaking in the face of ongoing political and environmental vulnerability.

We are looking forward to having you join us Tuesday at 3:30 pm!
