February 17, -
Speaker(s): Moderator: David Hoffman
Panelists: Casey Fiesler, Matthew Kenney, David Page & Aarthi Vadde
Keynote Speaker: Frances Haugen

We are pleased to announce the 2023 Provost’s Forum: “Big Problems in Big Tech," with keynote address by data scientist and Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The February 17 event is free and open to all.

The Provost’s Forum is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff—as well as members of the broader Durham and North Carolina communities—to explore the core values of inquiry, expression, and community in an academic setting where those values are regularly tested by competing concerns.

Over the course of the day, we will explore topics including challenges facing whistleblowers in tech, and the promise and perils of ChatGPT and other forms of generative AI. Panelists will include scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines, as well as industry professionals and higher education leaders.

The forum is being organized by a university-wide steering committee co-chaired by Nita Farahany and Abbas Benmamoun.

We invite you to join us for the full day, or for selected sessions as you are available. Please note, registration is required for all events, including the keynote address.

For up-to-date information including the agenda and speakers, please visit the 2023 Provost’s Forum registration page.
