Professional Background

I am a freelance editor and writer of stories, poems, essays, and children's books. After Duke, I worked at a marketing agency and went out on my own as a marketing consultant, copywriter, and editor. I then earned my MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts at the University of Baltimore, where I taught writing for several years. While in grad school, I worked for a literary agent for a year. I loved the editorial work, and went out on my own as a freelance editor. My business has been steadily growing since then.

How has being an English graduate from Duke University help shape your professional success?

I still pinch myself regularly because I can't believe people pay me to read their books and tell them what I think of them. It's a dream career. My time discussing literature and writing at Duke helped give me the experience I needed to do my job well.
