I taught TIP and volunteered at Student U, a non-profit affiliated with Durham Public Schools. I also taught while in grad school at Duke.
The teaching experiences I had at Duke were really helpful in leading me to this career change; the autonomy I had as a teacher is really useful now. Additionally, being part of a peer community that was supportive of and enthusiastic about my alternative career choices was really important when I was trying to figure out what to do next.
