I worked for many years in community development in Appalachia. This gave me the opportunity to collect oral and pictorial histories in the Virginia coalfields, which I then used to create local history books.
The many, many papers I wrote for various classes gave me the tools I needed to perform the necessary background research for my books, as well as helping me organize my writing.
