Professional Background

After I graduate from Duke, I earned an M.A. in English from Wake Forest University and a Ph.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center. I have been a professor at Wilkes University since 2008. I earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2014 and promotion to full professor in 2024. My areas of research include nineteenth-century British literature, queer and feminst narrative theory, and gender studies.

How has being an English graduate from Duke University helped shape your professional success?

I am a college English professor as a direct result of my experiences in the English department at Duke. The small seminar-style classes gave me opportunities to understand how much I enjoy engaging in critical discussion of literary works, and the essays allowed me to hone my interests and skills in researching and sharing knowledge.
