2010
I graduated from law school in 2013 and began practicing at an established law firm in Iowa City, Iowa. I spent several years in general practice before specializing in medical malpractice defense.
Many people believe that all lawyers are adept at reading and writing; this is not true. Many attorneys misread statutes and court opinions, and I have read thousands of poorly written documents. The critical reading, researching, and writing skills I learned as an English major at Duke have enabled me to develop and articulate everything from contractual provisions to winning legal arguments. I'm forever grateful to my college English professors for teaching me how to read, research, write, and communicate thoughtfully. These values have truly given me a leg-up in the legal marketplace and the courtroom.
