2017
I have been working in independent (private) K-12 since 2018: first in Texas, and now back in the triangle. In my job at Cary Academy, I teach high school English, develop curricula (for English and experiential education) and consult on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
You don't need a PhD to teach at a private high school, though often these schools find PhDs attractive. The Duke English PhD program has specifically bolstered my research skills, which means that I can design strong and innovative curricula distinct that move beyond what is commonly found in high school English classrooms
