Professional Background

I taught at the University of Notre Dame from 1996-2005; since 2005 I have been teaching at Berkeley. My first book, John Lydgate and the Making of Public Culture, was published by Cambridge University Press. I'm currently working on style and sensation in Chaucer and Gower.

How has being an English graduate from Duke University helped shape your professional success?

I worked with extraordinary medievalists at Duke: Lee Patterson, David Aers, and Sarah Beckwith. They continue to influence my research and teaching every day.
