Sally Rosen Kindred

Poet/Teaching Artist/Manuscript Consultant, Self-Employed

Class Year
1991
Professional Background

After Duke, I received an MFA in Poetry from the University of Maryland and an MA in English Literature from Duquesne University. I’m the author of three chapbooks and three full-length poetry collections, most recently Where the Wolf (Diode Editions, 2021), winner of the Diode Book Prize and the Jacar Press Julie Suk Award. I taught creative writing, composition, and literature in college classrooms for 7 years, and to gifted secondary school students at Johns Hopkins CTY for 14 years. Now I teach poetry workshops for adults through The Poetry Barn. I’m also a free-lance manuscript consultant for poetry books and chapbooks.

How has your English degree from Duke shaped your work life?

My Duke English professors taught me how to read, write, edit, and think about poetry, literature, culture, and almost everything else.
