How has being an English graduate from Duke University helped shape your professional success?

My Duke English major was instrumental in creating the opportunities to work at the intersection of art and science. Courses I took with Prof. James Applewhite in Poetry and Science, combined with the critical thinking and close reading skills I acquired studying Chaucer with Prof. Sarah Beckwith fueled my interest in pursuing a PhD. After a conversation with Prof. Priscilla Wald about science studies, I began an interdisciplinary graduate program which has led to a hybrid research and administrative position with Emerge, a festival that asks artists and scientists to redesign the future.
