The Duke English degree provided excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills, useful pre-requisites in any profession. But for me the exposure to different points of view, different eras, and different cultures that studying literature provided was a huge advantage. It made me more appreciative of where the other person was coming from, and more receptive to new ideas. Lastly, learning how the forms writers choose in creating their work influences the content, and vice versa, helped me make the transition from the print world to the internet; how you say it and where you say it impacts the communication, and you need to take this into account when serving the reader.
