How has being an English graduate from Duke University helped shape your professional success?

From John Milton to Zitkala-sa, the Duke English department opened my eyes to diverse and engaging writers. Our intensive close readings and collaborative discussions taught me how to enjoy the language and the craft of writing. It has been easy to channel everything I've learned as an English major into my profession: everyday I work with high school students as an English teacher. As we study literature and language, my degree has helped me equip students with the ability to speak with power.
