Professional Background

After receiving my degree from Duke I received my JD and LLM in Tax from Villanova Law School and my MBA from Temple University. I started my career in tax at Arthur Andersen LLP where I became a licensed CPA and continued my career in tax at law firms, public accounting firms and private industry. For the past 8 years I have specialized exclusively in State and Local Tax. I also had a tremendous opportunity to spend almost 3 months in Bangalore starting up my current firm's shared services center.

How has being an English graduate from Duke University help shape your professional success?

Despite the stereotype of an accountant, most of my time is spent performing research, analyzing client problems and a lot of writing/editing. My English degree was key in helping me be able to synthesize a large amount of information in a short period of time and become a great writer. My degree led me to become an assistant legal writing instructor in law school where I was able to further hone my skills. I believe I was able to advance in my career further since the skills I gained at Duke were exactly what my current firm was looking for in making the decision to promote me to Managing Director.
